Vaccine introduction

Successful introduction will be a huge step toward eliminating group A meningitis

Five boys.

Introducing the newly developed vaccine, making sure all at-risk children are protected, is our next big challenge.

After MenAfriVac™, the new meningococcal A conjugate vaccine, is licensed by the Indian regulatory authorities and prequalified by the World Health Organization, the challenge will be to introduce the vaccine. Widespread use of the vaccine will be needed to meet our objective of eliminating epidemic meningitis as a public health problem in sub-Saharan Africa.

A scientific workshop, "Introduction of a Men A Conjugate Vaccine," was held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, in 2005 to debate strategies for the introduction of MenAfriVac™. As more clinical and epidemiologic information has been made available, plans for introduction have been modified in collaboration with the governments of the countries where the vaccine will be introduced.
